Mini-reflections on the Sunday scripture readings designed for
persons on the run. "Faith Book" is also brief enough to be posted
in the Sunday parish bulletins people take home.
From today’s Hebrews reading:
For we do not have a high priest
Who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses,
But one who has similarly been tested in every way,
Yet without sin.
Hebrews reminds us that the One who has shared our human lot of
suffering and temptation is now enthroned in the heavenly realm. But
his position "on high" does not make him unapproachable and above
our struggles. Thus, when we approach Christ in prayer we can expect
mercy and a sympathetic hearing from his "throne of grace."
So, we ask ourselves:
Do we expect mercy from Christ each time we ask for
