General Intercessions

Twenty Third Sunday of Ordered Time

September 8, 2024

Presider: Jesus, the Christ, has done all things well. He makes the deaf to hear and stilled tongues to speak clearly of the saving power of God. Let us offer now our needs, our anxieties, our brokenness to the Father.

Deacon/ Lector/ Cantor: Please respond: “Lord, hear our prayer.”

1.That Pope Francis, our bishop _______, those committed to service as religious and clergy, and the faithful welcome those in need of healing and work to cure their deafness and stumbling speech, we pray

2. That political leaders foster the common good of the poor, aged, children, and elderly as a challenging responsibility, we pray

3. That our Community cease judging members by appearances and strive to appreciate the God given dignity of each, we pray

4. That our Community accompany its members in the joys of life, in troubles that challenge, and in the trials of accident and illness, we pray

5. That those who are physically, mentally, and spiritually challenged may experience the love and care of God for them through our parish community, we pray

6. That citizens consider character, commitment to common good, and integrity of candidates in preparation for voting, we pray

7. That those who died this past week (name those) and those who approach the portal of death this week, may be accompanied by family and lifted up by viaticum, anointing, and apostolic blessing, we pray

8. Let us pause for a moment to place our joys, pain, and urgent need on the Altar of sacrifice. (pause) we pray

Presider: Father, we lift up these intentions and pressing needs. Open our ears to your merciful and compassionate words and presence. Encourage us to speak kindness and peace to all we meet so that your Son may be welcome and present. We ask this in the name of your Son who lives with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit.

Response: Amen.
